Technology
Technology is an integral fiber of the educational fabric of UIS. All classrooms are equipped with SMART Board™ technology, an interactive whiteboard that energizes presentations and motivates learners. The touch-sensitive display connects to a computer and digital projector to show computer images. Teachers/presenters can then control computer applications directly from the display, write notes in digital ink and save work to share later. Desktop computers will be present in all K-2 classrooms and faculty will utilize personal laptops for preparing and saving lessons, presentations, testing, and reporting. Within early elementary classrooms, computers will be used to reinforce math and emerging reading skills, to build information literacy, and technology skills for the years ahead. UIS’s technology curriculum will be aligned with the International Society for Technology in Education’s (ISTE) National Educational Technology Standards for Students (NETS-S). These goals are meant to provide teachers with an outline of learning expectations and will be used to drive educational technology literacy and assessment.
