Language Arts
The language arts curriculum is centered on the SRA Imagine It! program, a comprehensive elementary reading and writing program that capitalizes on students natural curiosity and imagination. Using award-winning literature, and thought-provoking content-area reading, students develop critical content-thinking skills used in both oral and written communication. Students explore new ideas, ask questions, research answers, and share new learning. The curriculum includes a strong English/Language Arts emphasis – including letter recognition, print/book awareness, phonological and phonemic awareness, phonics and fluency, vocabulary and comprehension, inquiry, as well as writing and grammar.
The Concept/Question Board is used throughout each unity to keep students exploring and finding new dimensions to the unit theme. The strong inquiry strand contains built-in tools in every unit that promote curiosity, investigation, and higher-order thinking. Each unit begins with student-led discussions that prompt questions and areas of investigation about the unit theme.
